Visuals by Jenni Pasanen ~ Original poetry, music and performance by Laurence Fuller

“Blood in the water, jewels on his skin, better he’d slept a while longer, dreamt away the disrepute of his kin”

False Prophets is an exploration of influence in the art world; is there a difference between what is genuinely said to be valuable or “great” art and what is the truth? Working with three GAN artists and one painter to create the visuals. There’s a lot of discussion this past year as to wether AI art should be considered art at all, so we enjoyed playing with the topic without judgment.

False Prophet I by Laurence Fuller

His fat bulbous limbs draped over the patterned rug clippings of letters he lost spread across the floor, as he defamed his rivals in a pitch higher than the sound of rain on a dainty necklace.

An emperor of a forgotten lands,

Wretched wealth in wrecked abyss,

Empty coffers he rolled boulders up cliffs

Like Sisyphus, until he met a merchant diamonds draped his wrists

“I hope this was just a thought,

My bloodline cannot be bought”

The merchant made a circle with his stick;

“What is art? Only we know,

Bury your sorrows in the answers we foretold,

This is art ~ the wasted socks and shoehorns and dustbins I found, true luxury from decay, shiny surfaces and the unfurling of fat purses”

Blood in the water

Jewels on his skin

Better he’d slept a while longer

Dreamt away the disrepute of his kin
