The Big Parade

Water breezing through streets,
The hot wet time, it drips easy,
We are this life arrived at last and sighing this afternoon,
The afternoon I met you,
Double espressos and a half finished tattoo,
Thought quenched the state we stayed in,
Beneath the trees shadows, statues swayed in the water ways,
Swans floating by in the shade.

Secret gardens by the palace the day before the big parade,
The day before, the day we saw,
They all arrived to play,

We’ll fix it another day.

The elephants arrived, behind a pride of lions
I watched as she stopped by them
A sorrow in the blistering silence
Could the world conspire any better to create a paradise around her?
Monet had never seen a day so perfect,
Or maybe it was not the day at all,
Out of this ten seconds besides it
From lands afar, the glow of her skin still contained,
The arctic lights, the green sky, mains of wild horses
Sand from the South Seas and dust from paradise.
She rode across Europe, past the horizon once again,
Rode over plains, and fields and ice
The mountains a silhouette reflecting her life
In the day she stopped by the shore to watch,
The whales soaring through echoes,
By the penguins in flight,
She’s watched nature’s valley until dusk beckoned night.

A bee hive that dripped with honey,
Frought with the valiant,

The big red daze of the glaring stands filled with the astonished,
Tickle every sense and scintillation with anticipation,
For what can be seen through the blue smoke and haze,
Sun which burned their skin as they laze,
Simmering in those sun’s rays.

Helio Santos is a digital artist with that special capacity to move us, make us feel something with AI ~ Romantic landscape & poetry performance reimagined & corroded. I’d been admiring Helios’ work all year and when I saw he was starting to animate his works I reached out, because I realized it was more than time for us to collaborate. The contemporizing of his visions of nature are more important to our world than ever before, the way the Romantics saw, valued and experienced nature was symbiotic to the spiritual and emotional life of all people. Now in many cases we watch it behind screens.

Tall trees catch wind,

Tall trees burnt by tiny flames,

Tall trees burdened by baddest days,

Tall trees stripped of their skin,

Above the skyline, a halo of leaves,

Redwood and pine,

Home to discarded nests,

Squawking scratching buzzards,

Echoing in fields of lupine,

On April 17th 2022, I had the incredible opportunity to portray one of the finest painters alive today, David Hockney, for a major network. I talked to a few painter friends about it and we came up with the idea what if we could make an art and poetry biopic, that would form a moving portrait of a man that includes performance, painting and poetry in three chapters of his life. Starting with the young and vibrant portraiture by Tania Rivilis, moving to Preslav Kostov melancholic middle age and finally the depth of old age by Francien Krieg. Each of these three brilliant painters creating at the highest level, their voices shining through each portrait and perfectly suited to captured each chapter. I performed the piece somewhat in the subject’s voice and his unique accent from Yorkshire. The poem was mostly inspired by an interview that David did with my late father Peter Fuller, as they both wrestled with the topics of artistic integrity and ethics in art, fascinating to see how these ideas both stayed with him and evolved over time. I created the GAN latent spaces to be evocative of ripples on the surface of a swimming pool. Full poem beow.

Glimmer like fragments of shattered love,

The Renaissance ended, yet we have just begun,

Portraits of all the people I push towards,

Despite their shadows and protestations of never more,

Theories divide, but remember the most important things in life,

Art is the universal dimensions of beauty where we unify,

A portrait of identity,

But the King’s fall,

Red from the Tyrants rule,

Step one foot on that stage, 

Chandelier drops from the ceiling on the ball,

Scatter like falling debris,

Swallow pearls until they choke,

Prowling Dogs

Courage stands by defiance,

To face the flock of vultures,

Once freedom won, its not undone with ease,

Tyrant get on your knees!

A fire burns inside,

The young are makers of the old by action and by time,

And time pales any act of cowardice by design,

In recent memory, if I could only remember,

An act and baring more brave than your last breathe,

Scavengers pace the fresh flesh.

But it’s the blood of a tyrant that wets the soil,

As he’s strung up for the feral dogs,

Chased to the edges of this earth for his pockets filled with oil,

And his flesh the feed of hogs.

The dignity of the brave,

Makes their dying day,

Worth the flowers by the gate,

And the scavengers passing,

One they celebrate.

Courage has a human face 

Set your servitude Ablaze

Burn your old language of control

Fires in the trees, fires in the bleeding fields of peace, 

Prowling dogs fleece,

Until those fires cease,

We want peace.

Body’s Aflame

What do you believe? 

Red hallows in the leaves,

When man fails to achieve, 

That’s when he does thieve,

Hubris on the cusp of all that we miss, 

Searching for grandeur in the hopeless abyss,

Lost in the forest of one’s own discontentments.

The crown falls down rectory halls,

Clanking on the ground,

The sound tingles the spine,

Give me all the luxury that’s mine,

Gold and glory 

Warring worlds in the unwritten stories,

The power of memory,

Is the greatest I posses,

Storehouses of my life at its best,

Fallen years corrode the vanquishment of time.

Fruits of the past make the future,

But their seeds are weerisome to grow, 

Wherever I do sow,

Pools of mud and crow,

If I belong to the past,

I can live in the shadows that they cast,

Live only in memory, 

For my body’s all in flames.

Swing sickles at my heart again,

Feels better that way,

Better than facing the daylight today,

Golden pools, 

Elixir my frustrations,

I can only find who I am in the fire of their eyes,

The cheering compulsions In disguise,

The masquarade of life,

Once the curtains drawn, 

Their seats still warm 

But they’re all gone,

My love left a rose on the stage but it burnt in a thousand ways,

Ashen and forever under my gaze.

BROKEN GARDEN

I ate a seed, 

I knew it was bad for me,

It was from a Broken Garden,

And a fig from a bloody tree.

Sap poured out the wounds above,

Into vases filled with wine,

Veins flowed, red lines of love,

Expulsions measured the length from which we all grow.

Contented and burdensome,

The bastions of the unknown.

Visitors from distance ires fascinating town criers,

As they ring bells and warn of the poison leaking from twisted faucets.

I walk the path on the edge of my toes.

Seeds from a broken garden,

And a fig from a bloody tree,

Red vines bleed out of me,

Expulsions of the soul.

MY RIGHTFUL THRONE

What we shared in that age of grandiuer,

I warrant man’s eyes have never seen clouds so white,

Tasted wine so rich and sweet,

Dripping in suppliants, that bathed our feet,

A life delivered Paradise in the skies,

Around me a company did grow,

If not for him we would have had the earth the clouds and all the universe in toe,

That cause of all our woe.

War was waged in heaven,

And we were chastised for this transgression.

To rebel, to be master of my own

My father was an art critic who blazed a trail in the British art world of the 1980s, from his journals and friends recollections I know that eventually he felt trapped by his success and felt what he really wanted to do was to be a poet.
